Our experience with buying a home that was For Sale by Owner began in 2001 when we bought our first home in DeForest, WI.

We purchased that home from college friends of ours with the help of a highly respected lawyer in DeForest. This experience instilled a desire in us to help educate others on the concept of buying and selling properties by owner. In February 2004, after we were blessed with our second child, we realized that we had quickly outgrown our home and that it was time to begin the search for our second house. We decided to use the Internet to advertise and sell our current property, as well as to search for a new home. Once again we hired a local attorney to represent us, and literally saved thousands of dollars in the process. With a little hard work, and help from an attorney, we were able to sell our home within three weeks. The most important thing that these experiences have taught us is that buying and selling a home can be easy, and it can be done without paying the high commission that a realtor will take from your purchase price or sale.

In the past few years we have had numerous friends of ours ask us how we did it. It has been eye opening at how much the real estate world is changing.
